Our Aim

We understand that navigating the challenges of growing up can be tough, and sometimes, young people need a little extra help as early as possible. Our service is designed to offer a range of supportive options, empowering children, young people, and their families to build resilience and thrive.

We aim to help families make sense of their difficulties and work with them to provide a psychological toolkit of strategies that can be used in everyday life. This service is ideally suited for young people and families who feel able to try out new strategies for doing things differently to reach their goals.

Who We Help

The CHUMS Milton Keynes Wellbeing Service is a community-based team providing support to families with:

  • Children and young people aged 7-18.
  • Young Adults up to 25 years old with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND ages 7 – 25yrs) or who are care leavers.

Sadly, the team cannot support young people that require urgent / emergency care or those who have more complex needs that may require significant adaptations or longer-term support. Please refer to your statutory agencies for urgent or emergency care or specialised support. There is more information about these organisations at the bottom of the page.

What We Provide

This team uses active outreach to engage with families and youth organisations (e.g. Schools / Scouts) to reach as many people as we can. Our early intervention focus means we support:

Prevention

  • For those who would like to learn more about emotional wellbeing difficulties and how to use the theory to approach life.

Early intervention

  • “Guided self-help” for families and young people who want ideas / strategies for change and need a little help to think about how to apply the strategies on their own to reach their goal.
  • Families when they are starting to experience emotional wellbeing difficulties (e.g. 6 months to a year) and want support to prevent escalation.

Our aim is to work collaboratively with other agencies across Milton Keynes to understand your needs to ensure the right support at the right time.

The team comprises of a mixture of staff with a variety of skills, including: qualified therapists, IAPT and recreational practitioners and we work closely with staff in our other services to a provide a whole community approach for early intervention.
